Best Restaurants -(Cantonese)
Haitian Ge
(Restaurants - Cantonese)
1 Guanghua RdBeijing 8529 6999
Description:
Cantonese cuisine provides a lighter option than many of the fatty, spicy Chinese cuisines. Nowhere in the capital is it done with more finesse than at Horizon. Despite the lavish surroundings this restaurant is not over-priced, although dishes such as the popular bird's nest soup and shark fin cost somewhat more than standard fare. Sweet and sour Mandarin fish is the prize dish. Shrimp dumplings and dim-sum are also recommended.
Huang Ting
(Restaurants - Cantonese)
8 Jinyu HutongWangfujing 8516 2888 ext 6707
Description:
Located in the lower lobby of the Peninsula Hotel, this is an authentic and elegant Cantonese restaurant with delicate light meals served in a "hutong" (alleyway) styled setting. The brickwork is taken from original hutong courtyards, and the rich pine floor and beams accentuate the old-world charm. Of the choices on an extensive menu, recommended are the abalone and the pan-fried scallops.
Jing Resaurant
(Restaurants - Cantonese)
8 Jinyu Hutong, WangfujingBeijing 6523 0175 ext 6714
Description:
In 2003, Jing was ranked as one of the "75 World's Top New Restaurants" by Condé Nast Traveler. Since then, the Peninsula Hotel has taken over the restaurant and the ambiance is a little sterile. However, it still makes for a splendid option in fine dining. Fusion cuisine and Cantonese dishes are available. Try the tiger prawns, duck rolls, delicious dim-sum or any of the daily seafood specials. Jing also offers fine wine by the glass.
Otto's Restaurant
(Restaurants - Cantonese)
72 Dongdan StBeijing 6525 1783
Description:
Otto's stays open til the wee hours. It's one of those ever-busy, noisy, city haunts that pulls in customers every night solely due to a long-term glowing reputation. This Cantonese-cum-Hong Kong diner specializes in "baozai" (clay pot) rice dishes - the pick of the bunch is "lawei huaji baozaifan," a mix of rice, salty-sweet sausage and chicken marinated in soy sauce. A great place for a late-night feed.
